my morning run

Registration for the Princess Half is next Tuesday! It's about to become real. So I need to step up my game. My goal for the summer is to be able to run at least 7 miles by the end of July. The longest I have ran is 4.55 miles. I think I will do small runs during the week and on weekends do my longer runs.

I'm down east visiting my friend Jennifer and the girls for a week. Jennifer lives in a beautiful neighborhood,  it's on a lake and has lots of hills. I hate hills. Well, I hate running up hills but I do like running down hills!

When I returned from my run, these sweet girls were happy to see me! I was very happy to see them!

Dancing Queens

Last night was Hadley and Harper's dance recital! It was super cute. They tap danced to the Good Ship Lollipop. To say I was excited about this event is an understatement!

McKinley, the girl's cousin, also danced. She did an outstanding job too!

This picture cracks me up!

McKinley and me waiting for the show to start.

I love every minute of the recital. The girls did tap first and then they got to show off their tumbling skills.  They did cartwheels and rolls all over the stage! I wish I had a picture of their smiles. I do believe they loved every second of being on stage! I look forward to many more recitals with these girls.

Its beginning to look like Summer

Jennifer sent me these pictures of the girls this past week. I will be spending a week with them starting tomorrow! I can't wait! They have their very first dance recital on Tuesday night. I have been looking forward to that since I found out Jennifer was having girls!

I hope to spend a lot of time with these girls this summer! Being a school teacher has its perks!

I downloaded an app to my phone so I could add doodles and words to my pictures. This is my cute little Mamaw and me at a birthday party on Sunday.

End of the Road

Last week was the last week of school for the year! It was also the retirement celebration of my dear friend Terre. When I started teaching 13 years ago my teaching neighbor was Terre. She was new to the school like me but had been teaching for years! We were teaching 4th grade at the time. Terre taught me so much about being a teacher those first few years in 4th grade. She had a passion for North Carolina history and teaching! She has taught 2nd grade the past 8 years and I joined her in 2nd grade 3 years ago. I always tell her that you are only as good as the teacher next door and she has helped me look good the past few years! Ha!

Our 2nd grade team - Me, Julie, and Terre
(We made a good team - it will be different without Terre next year!)

Terre and me. (I know the picture is blurry but its the only one I have of the 2 of us from the retirement party!)

I am not sure how I will feel next year when I don't have my sweet friend there with me. She has always been there to listen to me and give me advice - teaching and life! I know that I will probably text her everyday!

Field Trip last year

I am thankful God put Terre in my life! She is so special to me. Words could never say how much she means to me. Thank you for all the memories Terre! I wish you the best retirement ever!

graduation

A few weeks ago one of my former students, Taylor, came by my school to give me a graduation invitation. She had written a note in the invitation saying that she remembered me saying (when she was in 4th grade!) I would come to her graduation if I was invited. Taylor also wrote that I was still her favorite teacher! So of course I had to go watch her graduate! I was very honored that she took the time to invite me and very honored that she still says I am her favorite teacher!

Graduation was this past Friday night. I always think it is neat to watch the kids that I taught graduate. Its fun to see how they have grown up!

Taylor and me after graduation. She is such a cutie!

I love being a teacher and knowing that I have touched one life makes it much more rewarding. I wish all my former students the best in life!

Thanks Taylor for inviting me!

Biltmore 5k

This morning I ran the Biltmore Kiwanis 5K at the Biltmore Estate. I was nervous because this was my first race and I didn't really know what to expect. Plus I have been fighting allergies this week so I was not feeling my best.

My friends Katelyn, Michele, and Wendy also ran the 5K.

My race bib and tee

Wendy and me in line before we started.

After we finished!

My goal for the race was to finish in under 35 minutes. My official time was 32:09. So I am very pleased with my time. I was 11th (out of 27) in my age group and 115th (out of 271) overall!

Katelyn, Michele, Me, and Wendy

Katelyn's husband Seth ran with her. They are just too cute!

The weather was okay. It was rainy. We all had wet heads when we finished!

I look forward to our next race! One more step to my Princess Half goal. Now I have to start looking for a 10K to run!

Mother's Day and Ryan's Birthday

I am a little behind...3 days behind on blogging about Mother's Day. We went to church and then we joined my mom's family for lunch. Just a few pictures from the day...

My mom and me. I gave her that scarf for Mother's Day.

My Mamaw Mary. She is so tiny!

I have had so many people tell me that I look and act like my Mamaw Mary!

trying to get her to pose for a picture

 I love a candid picture.

Ryan decided to join us in the picture.

I wish I had some good pictures of my mom, brother, and me but the photographer (my dad) had a hard time working the iPhone!

Overall it was a nice Mother's Day. I think my mom loved having her family together for most of the day.

On Monday, we celebrated again! It was my big brother's birthday.
